Flash Catalyst (beta) and Flash Builder 4 (beta) now on Adobe Labs
June 1st, 2009 07:06Yes, you read it right in the title. Adobe Flash Catalyst is now in public beta available on Adobe Labs. You can download this new software today and start building your RIAs right from the start, based on Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator assets. Ryan Stewart has a lot of information (and screencasts) on Flash Catalyst on his blog. When you’ve created the initial design and added interactivity to it, use your (or your colleague’s) developer skills and Flash Builder 4 (also in beta) to add the business logic to it. Flash Builder 4 has nice new productivity features, which Tim Buntel tells more about on his blog.

Enjoy!!
Adobe AIR Flip – A “Time Waster”
April 10th, 2009 11:04
Do you also like the CS4 Mnemonics? Have a look at this “AIR FLIP” game. You can build very nice things using Adobe Suite Creative 4. Currently I am wrapping up the roadshow in the Benelux for the “Daily Time Savers” campaign; if you missed it, you could also have a look on the Time Savers website for additional information. Although Creative Suite 4 can help you save time, playing games like “Adobe AIR FLIP” can be a real time waster.
Flash Catalyst at SDE and Web2.0 Expo
April 4th, 2009 11:04Last week, I gave a presentation on Flash Catalyst at the SDN Event from Software Development Network (SDN). Flash Catalyst is an upcoming tool from Adobe that eases the designer-developer integration. Flash Catalyst allows you to create Rich Internet Applications based on the Adobe Flash Platform. Flash Catalyst can consume Photoshop PSD files or Illustrator files and enhance them with interactivity.
Kevin Lynch, CTO for Adobe demoed Flash Catalyst at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco. The recording of this presentation is shown below. This demo starts with a mock-up in Illustrator of a Facebook application to look up friends; Kevin converts the artwork to interactive elements and finally uses the Facebook ActionScript 3 Client API to integrate it with Facebook (which we also announced last week).
White House – Obama live with Flash
March 26th, 2009 19:03I’ve just finished watching the “Town Hall” meeting with US President Barack Obama. The White House streamed this event live using Flash. We already knew that the White House was into Adobe products, but this is really nice.

If you are still questioning the use of Flash Video for large, high profile deployments: You shouldn’t !!
Start playing with Flash Media yourself and go to the Adobe website to check out the “Flash Media Server 3.5″. Download the developer edition of FMS3.5 and you’ll be streaming in minutes.
Flash Video marketshare continues to increase
February 5th, 2009 22:02My collegue Serge Jespers has written a nice summary on the usage of video on the web (and especially Flash video). The summary is based on the recently published numbers from Comscore report for December 2008.
Serge writes: “In December 2008, Internet users in the US watched 14.3 billion online videos (yes… 14.3 billion videos in one month!). A big chunk of those were watched using Flash technology. I don’t have the specific numbers yet but looking at the list of video sites surveyed, I think it’s safe to say that Flash Video is the absolute number one video format on the web. In fact, 41 percent of all those videos were watched on YouTube.”
