YouTube for Mobile on Nokia E90

YouTube released a BETA of “YouTube for Mobile”. This application is available for a limited amount of devices at the moment. The devicelist includes the Nokia N95, but doesn’t mention the Nokia E90. So I tried to open up the webbrowser on the E90 and go to the url “http://m.youtube.com/app”. Merely the page told me that my device was not supported…. strange… The E90 as almost the same features and OS as the N95. So I tried a workaround:

  • Install the Useragent Switcher for Firefox
  • Add the UserAgent String for an N95 :
    Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaN95_8GB/10.0.021; \
    Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413
  • Point your firefox to: m.youtube.com/app and if everything works out, You’ll be redirected to this page
  • Download the jad-file (N95 specific) to your memorycard on the E90
  • Open the jad file in the filebrowser on the E90 to install the app

Make sure to enable the “alert sounds” (This setting can be found in “Profiles” > “Current Profile” > “Personalize” > “Warning Tones.” , source: YouTube FAQ) otherwise you won’t hear anything… YouTube movies without sound are boring.

Enjoy!
